was born in Wolverhampton, England to Geoff and Karen payne. He’s got two older sisters called Nicola and Ruth. He was born 3 weeks early and as a result had a few health issues. The first four years of his life were spent in and out of hospitals, getting regular tests done.

Doctors noticed that one of Liam’s kidneys was scarred and not functioning properly, however in 2012 Liam found out that his kidney had actually started functioning properly again!

Liam is the third oldest member of One Direction and first auditioned for The X Factor in 2008 at just 14 years old. He impressed judges made it all the way to boot camp but Simon thought he was too young at the time and asked him to re-audition in a few years time.

Two years later, Liam re-auditioned in Birmingham when he was 16 years old. His audition song was ‘Cry Me a River’ by Justin Timberlake and the audience gave him a standing ovation after his performance. At boot camp, Liam sang ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’ by Oasis but didn’t make it through as a solo artist. He was then however chosen by the judges to become part of One Direction.
